Anacapa Brewing Co.: Enjoy a Locally-Brewed Beer

November 24, 2015 12:19 pm

Anacapa Brewing Co. enjoys a reputation as the only brewery-restaurant in Ventura, but locals say the beer here is among the best in the area.

Many regulars come here just to sample the beers, which change seasonally, but don’t shy away from the food. Try the Asiago cheese dip, the fish tacos, the San Buenaventura burger, the Cuban sandwich or the Buffalo wings. For beer, customers recommend the Santa Rosa Red, the Chocolate Stout, the Farmer Flannel Maple Brown, the Pierpont IPA, the Sour Berlinerweisse, or the Stagecoach Stout.

If you’re pressed for time or simply can’t decide which beer to try, order a flight. When you find a brew you prefer, grab a growler to go.

Anacapa Brewing Co is open from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays through Tuesdays, 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesdays and 11:30 a.m. to 12 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

How to Ease the Stress of At-Home Entertaining

November 11, 2015 3:02 pm

Do you feel anxious every time you have a few people over? Playing the host can be quite stressful, but it doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. Here are just a few ways that you can get yourself situated before your guests arrive — and still make sure that everyone has a great time!

  1. Plan the meal ahead of time. The week before your party, brainstorm ideas for the menu. Do your shopping at least the day before, and make as much of the meal as you can before your guests arrive.
  2. Set the table beforehand. The night before the party, set your table and create place settings (if you’re using them). If you don’t have a designated dining table, think of where guests should sit — the sofa, an outdoor patio, or even on cozy cushions on the floor.
  3. Make a playlist. Lift your mood (and your guests’) with a fun playlist filled with uplifting music. Choose songs that are upbeat but still quiet enough to allow for socializing.
  4. Gather some games. If you’re still worried about guests having a good time, pull out some board games that you can fall back on if there’s a lull in the conversation.
  5. Take a deep breath. If you start to get overwhelmed, let your guests know. They’ll be thankful that you’re so concerned with their enjoyment, and they’ll likely even lend a hand.
