Add These Two Foods to Your Diet for a Boost of Iron

July 27, 2015 2:09 pm

Consuming iron-rich foods helps your cells transport oxygen throughout our body, preventing fatigue and supplying energy. So getting enough iron each day is important, and it can be very easy if you know which foods to look for. Incorporate these two iron-rich foods into your diet if you're lacking in the mineral:

  1. Dark chocolate. Treat yourself and do something good for your body by indulging in a piece of dark chocolate every now and again. Just one serving of 80% dark chocolate contains 4.1 milligrams of iron, so dessert can be an integral part of your healthy diet.
  2. Red meat. While you do want to be careful not to over-consume red meat, it is one of the most iron-rich foods. So you can select a package of lean ground beef to meet your daily needs.

Maria’s Italian Kitchen: A Taste of Naples in Oxnard

July 21, 2015 4:43 pm

In 1975, Maria's Italian Kitchen opened in a one-car garage in LA. Its roots trace back even before that flagship eatery, though. Namesake Maria spent her childhood in the Italian neighborhood of Hoboken, NJ, learning authentic Neapolitan recipes at the elbow of her mother, Luisa. When the family came to Los Angeles, Maria brought the recipes with her. What began as a modest eatery in that one-car garage has flourished into a full-service restaurant in the years since thanks to the efforts of Maria and her family.

You can taste some of the authentic cuisine that made Maria's a local success at the Oxnard location, now one of 10 total restaurants. Like its sister restaurants, the Maria's in Oxnard brings some of Italy's best classics to California. Try the meat lasagna, a favorite among regular customers, or the chicken Parmesan. Subs and pizzas are also on the pasta-heavy menu.

  • The Steel Dragon 2000 coaster in Japan’s Nagashima Spa Land measures in at a whopping 318 feet high and 8,133 feet long, which makes it the longest steel coaster in the world. • Since 2005, the Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey has held the title of the tallest roller coaster in the world. It stands 456 feet tall and drops riders at a stomach-churning 128 miles per hour in just 3.5 seconds.
  • If you prefer upside down roller coasters, the roller coaster with the most loops is The Smiler in England’s Alton Towers park. Although its name sounds sweet and innocent, this coaster boasts a whopping 14 loops.
  • If speed is more your thing, the world’s fastest roller coaster is, predictably, located at Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi. This bright red, Ferrari-themed coaster reaches speeds of 150 miles per hour in just five seconds.
